Story

Brave marines of the 280th Commando Company: Ever since these scaly fiends first emerged from the depths beneath Graham Island, ever since they first nested in the hills and fields of our European allies, your valor has been a credit to the Entente de L'humanité. And now, at long last, we have devised the means to locate our enemy's nests.

So before they realize it, we strike! As our fellow companies take to the field and strike as well, in every theater of conflict! Operation Saint George will go a damn fine distance toward ridding us of this heretofore indefatigable scourge. Find the nests, and snuff out the flames of terror!

You have your orders. The time is now, 280th!

Objective

Use your four-man commando squad to find and destroy all six dragon nests in the area.

You win when all six dragon nests have been revealed, even if all of your squad members are dead.

You lose when all your squad members are dead and fewer than six dragon nests have been revealed.

HINT: According to your field manual, dragons can't think strategically. But you can. Pay attention to these hints for important clues to help you claim victory.

Instructions

Start by scratching off one of the three possible starting locations. You are now on the first day of the mission.

Each turn, scratch off a new hex that is adjacent to one you have already scratched off, revealing a threat.

NOTE: You may only enter the caves (the top half of the map) through the two entrance tunnels

The number on the bottom of a hex is its strength. When a hex is scratched off, you must select one of your characters and deal that much damage to them. For each point of strength on the hex, scratch off one health icon (below the character's portrait) in the current day’s row.

When all three health icons for a character have been scratched off in a single day, that character is killed. Scratch off their portrait and all their icons for all three days. They may not be used for the rest of the game. Ignore any remaining damage from the threat that killed them.

Dragon Typology

Know your enemy! Before entering the fray, consult this report on the traits and distribution of dragons in the area.

Lone Juvenile Dragon

HINT: Lone juvenile dragons are never adjacent to nests.

Pair of Juvenile Dragons

HINT: Each pair of juvenile dragons is adjacent to at least one nest.

Adult Dragon

HINT: There is always exactly one adult dragon in the caves (the top half of the map).

Dragon Nest

HINT: There are always exactly six nests, with at least three in the caves (the top half of the map).

Resting

Instead of scratching off a hex, you may choose to rest.

To do this, scratch off the entire row for the current day. You’ve now ended a day and moved on to the next one. This refreshes the health for all of your characters, as well as their abilities (except for the Firefighter's).

NOTE: The Firefighter’s ability has a single use for the entire mission, so don’t scratch it off when the day ends.

Characters that were killed remain killed and should not have any unscratched icons.

After you reach day three you may not rest again, as this is the last day of your mission.

Abilities

Here's where that training pays off, men! Each character has a unique ability that may be used if they have not been killed. When you use an ability, scratch off its icon (to the right of the character's health icons).

IR Scope

Select a hex you've scratched, and scratch off the bottom of an adjacent hex that you haven't, to reveal its strength. This does not count as scratching off the new hex, so do not deal that damage to a member of your squad.

At a later time, you may decide to scratch off the rest of the hex. If you do, you must deal out damage according to the threat's strength as usual.

Asbestos Shield

Instead of scratching off a hex that is adjacent to one you’ve already scratched off, “skip” a hex and scratch off a new hex, two hexes away from one you’ve already scratched off.

This ability may only be used once per game, but may be used on any day.

Grenade

When you scratch off a hex to reveal a threat, you may use this ability to negate the threat's damage completely, regardless of its strength.

Lewis Gun

When you scratch off a hex to reveal a threat, you may use this ability to reduce the threat's strength by one (or by two, if you use it twice). When this ability is used, any remaining damage must be dealt to a character other than the Gunner.

Scoring

When you win the game, your score is based on the number of squad members you have remaining:
